Woman admits child abuse, will testify against former boyfriend

A Fremont Township woman accused of molesting a boy for nearly three years pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Monday in Lake County circuit court.

Molly Jensen, 34, agreed to testify against a former boyfriend who is also charged in the case.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Steven Derue said Jensen and Joseph Summers, 41, were arrested in September after the victim's father called police.

He said the victim had told his father he was molested by the couple, who were in a dating relationship at the time, between July 1999 and March 2002.

Police said the assaults took place at Summers' residence at 1519 Hickory St., Round Lake Beach.

Both were charged with multiple counts of predatory sexual assault of a child, which carries a mandatory sentence of six to 30 years in prison.

Jensen, of 20631 W. Park St., pleaded guilty to attempted predatory sexual assault of a child as a result of a negotiation with prosecutors.

She will face a prison term of up to 15 years, but will also be eligible for probation once the legal proceedings against Summers are concluded.

Summers, who has a prior conviction for molesting a child, is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 12.
