Woman found dead in garage following house fire in Kane County
The Kane County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a woman was found dead Saturday in a garage following a house fire near Lily Lake.
A news release from the sheriff’s office said the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the fire on the 43W500 block of Otter Lane. Fire personnel located the deceased woman inside the garage of the home.
The sheriff's office is investigating the circumstances of the fire with the fire protection district, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
Fire officials stressed that the involvement of the state fire marshal and fire investigation task force does not mean authorities believe the fire’s cause was arson or otherwise suspicious.
“At this time, no conclusions have been reached, and no possibilities have been ruled out,” the news release said.
The news release from the sheriff did not say the time, and the fire chief was not available for comment Monday afternoon. But photos and emergency radio broadcasts posted online indicate it was reported shortly before midnight Friday.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday.
