Pleased that day care is on old Schaumburg homestead
For anyone who had contact with the Ellis and Helsper families throughout the years, I think your heart may be warmed after reading this.
Yesterday, as part of a contingent of seniors from Friendship Village (where I now live) I went by bus to the corner of Plum Grove and Schaumburg Roads, to visit the Children's Home and Aid day care center.
The residents of Friendship Village donated many, many articles that will help the children and their families. The bus was full!
You'll remember that particular piece of land was where my mom and dad (Walter and Maybelle Ellis) lived happily for so many years. Their house was torn down and after many setbacks in securing the necessary funding, the day care center became a reality.
It is a beautiful place where 116 children from 6 months to 5 years old are cared for by many dedicated employees and volunteers. The fees are subsidized for families who qualify.
We visited many classrooms and met the wonderful children. We gave each child a toy and as a group, sang "Frosty the Snowman." The kids outdid us by singing "Jingle Bells"!
How happy my parents are (up there in heaven) knowing that sweet little children are spending their days at "their house."
Mom told us, "There should always be a baby in the family."
Mom, you got your wish!
