Police: Man left kids in car while shopping

A Gilberts man was charged with child endangerment after police said he left two young children in his car while shopping at Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg.

Walter Anthony Karbowski, 42, of 574 Telluride Drive, was charged at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after Schaumburg police said his 5- and 1-year-old children had been left alone in the parking lot at 601 N. Martingale Road for at least two hours.

Karbowski had been shopping for a shirt, police said.

A witness reportedly first saw the two children sitting in the back seat around 2:55 p.m. and notified police around 5 p.m.

Karbowski is due in court Nov. 19.
