Vernon Hills row houses maximize space, convenience

Port Clinton Place offers gracious living in a quiet sanctuary just minutes from the area's finest amenities - upscale shopping, new parks, top schools and a host of entertainment and dining options.

The Vernon Hills community, being built by Rosemont-based Opus North Corp., features 47 tri-level row houses with three bedrooms, 2 baths, finished lower levels and attached, rear-load, two-car garages.

Situated in a prime spot on Route 45 just west of Milwaukee Avenue, Port Clinton Place recently unveiled three model row houses for visitors to tour.

"We're very excited about the Catalina model because it demonstrates to prospective buyers how a maintenance-free row house can really live like a single-family home," said Andrew Lockwood, real estate director for Opus North. "Once they see the model, they'll realize the design is unlike anything else in the area.

"The model allows for ample storage on all three levels, which makes it a popular plan with downsizers. It's not that much of a change from their single-family homes, but it's maintenance-free, which makes their lives much easier."

The featured Catalina is priced from $469,900 has 2,360 square feet, three bedrooms and 2 baths. In this design, the main level sits a half flight of stairs up from the foyer. The contemporary interior with hardwood flooring has an urban feel with an open, flowing floor plan ideal for entertaining.

An ultra-suede champagne sofa and chair furnish the living room along with an animal print chair and area rug that bring texture to the space. The adjacent dining room has an enclave of windows that brightens the room and provides a wide sill for accessories.

The rear of the home features the more casual living areas including the kitchen, breakfast area and family room. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. At its center is a large island that sits four for breakfast or a quick meal while the breakfast area has more seating. Off the breakfast room, sliding glass doors open onto a private balcony with outdoor furnishings.

The casual family room features a media center with open shelving, champagne sofa and russet chairs with a woven coffee table. A fireplace is optional.

The very contemporary master suite presents a fresh look with its crisp white bed cover that contrasts with sleek dark wood furnishings while taupe draperies dress the windows. There is a walk-in closet and adjoining bath with his-and-hers raised vanity, corner tub and walk-in shower with ceramic tile surround.

The upper level also houses two secondary bedrooms, full hall bath and laundry room. The second bedroom is outfitted as a home office and sitting room. Shown as a guest room, the third bedroom with walk-in closet is done in blue and white with a whisper of red.

Entering from the garage, the lower level den with lots of natural light is set up as a family room with a black leather sectional, large ottoman and entertainment center with plasma TV. This flexible space could be used as a game room, play room or even another bedroom, with the optional powder room shown with a pedestal sink and walk-in shower.

Two unfurnished models are also available for visitors to tour. The Acadia, priced from $412,900, has 2,028 square feet while The Bradford, priced from $447,900, features 2,145 square feet. Each offers three bedrooms, den and 2 baths.

The development will also include 66 single-level condominiums base priced from the mid-$200,000s with 1,036 to 2,187 square feet, one to three bedrooms, 2 baths and secure underground parking.

Opus North has partnered with home builder Edward R. James Homes for the exclusive sales and marketing of Port Clinton Place. Buyers work with a design consultant at the Edward R. James Homes design center to customize their homes with everything from upgraded flooring and countertops to designer paint colors and light fixtures.

To visit Port Clinton Place, take I-94 to the Half Day Road exit. Proceed west on Half Day Road for 1 miles and turn right on Milwaukee Avenue. Then, turn left at the first stop light onto Route 45/Olde Half Day Road. Continue one-quarter mile to the sales center on the right.
