Burlington C. wins Lincoln-Way tourney

Burlington Central (29-5) rolled through the Lincoln-Way Central tournament Saturday, beating Oak Lawn, LW-Central, T.F. North and Champaign Centennial before holding off Marian Catholic 20-25, 25-21, 25-16 in the title match. Stephanie Holthus had 46 kills, 14 aces and 26 digs while Molly Turk added 78 assists, 29 kills and 18 digs to lead the Rockets. "I was really impressed with the girls today," said BC coach Marv Leavitt. "Our defense and serving were both good."

At Autumnfest: Crystal Lake South (26-7), minus starting setter Jordan Guida who was gone because of an academic obligation, rallied around sophomore Chelsea Sirovatka, who had 73 assists, to finish ninth at Glenbard East's Autumnfest Saturday.

The Gators beat Loyola 25-11, 25-23, then Glenbard East 25-12, 25-27, 27-25 an

d finally Wheaton Warrenville South 25-12, 25-15 for ninth place. Erin Johnson had 44 kills and Kali Loescher 58 digs for the Gators.

"I was really pleased to see how the girls adjusted to a pretty important part of your team not being here," Gators coach Jorie Fontana said. "What I love about today is we just got better. Each game the girls seemed to get better chemistry and we ended on a good note."

Huntley (19-13) earned a 19th-place finish. The Red Raiders, minus starters Katherine Lowery and Ashley Smith, beat Schaumburg 25-22, 18-25, 25-18, lost to Barrington 13-25, 25-20, 25-22 and beat Mt. Pulaski 25-23, 25-17. This, after drawing Benet in the first game of pool play Friday and losing a three-gamer to Willowbrook. Toni Jaehing had 28 kills for Huntley.

"It seemed like every match was going to three games," Huntley coach Michelle Jakubowski said. "It was good to finish the way we did."

St. Edward at Minooka: St. Edward (17-16) defeated the Minooka JV and Bremen but lost to Normal U-High, Glenbard South and Normal West at the Minooka tournament. Kristen Haggenjos had 32 kills and 30 digs for the Green Wave, Katie Yohn added 36 assists and 36 kills, and Molly Kelley had 15 kills and 10 blocks.

At Elgin: South Elgin went 2-3 at the Elgin tournament, beating Leyden and Highland Park but falling to Dundee-Crown, Rolling Meadows and Elgin. Alyssa Krause had 27 kills and Tara Bradley 78 assists for the Storm (9-20).
