Hurricanes top Ducks, 3-1

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Michael Leighton made 32 saves and Ryan Bayda, Rod Brind'Amour and Eric Staal scored goals for Carolina.

Brind'Amour broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period and the Hurricanes held off Anaheim in the final period for their first victory on a six-game trip that began with a 4-3 overtime loss at Los Angeles on Friday night.

The victory moved Carolina coach Peter Laviolette past the late Bob Johnson into second place among U.S.-born coaches with 235 career victories. Former Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella tops the list with 239.

Francois Beauchemin scored for Anaheim. The Ducks are 1-5.
