Huskies finish perfect in Mid-Suburban East
Hersey wrapped up its first perfect Mid-Suburban League East Division girls volleyball crown since 2005, as the Huskies stopped visiting Elk Grove 25-20, 25-11 Thursday night in the Ken Carter Gymnasium.
The victory gave the Huskies (21-3) a 10-0 mark in the East, three matches better than the runner-up Grenadiers (19-9, 7-3).
The Huskies, who won their sixth straight East crown, went 10-0 in the East from 2003-05.
"This was another goal of ours (to be undefeated in East),"said Huskies coach Nancy Lill, whose team will host Conant for the Mid-Suburban League championship Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Huskies were led on attack by McKenzie Forbes (7 kills), Katie Lill (7), Anne Carroll (6) and Jamie Welter (5), while senior setter Shelly Mueller collected 26 assists and also shared team blocking honors (4) with Carroll.
Hersey libero Becca Haraf collected 21 digs.
"I think it was one of Becca's best matches," said Nancy Lill. "She really frustrated them. If we weren't blocking them, she was back there picking them up. "Elk Grove played great in the first game and really challenged us. I think our block took over in Game 2 and we also served real aggressive."
Katie Loos and Krystina Leazer each had 3 kills for Elk Grove, while Leah Miller added 2. Kelsey Prochenski handed out 8 assists and Jessica Condon 5. Olivia Roback had 6 digs fore the Grenadiers.
