Kaneland teachers demonstrate

Kaneland District 302 teachers and district representatives have set two additional negotiating sessions with a mediator to follow last night's first mediation since teachers issued an intent to strike.

The additional sessions have been scheduled for Oct. 18 and 19. The first day the teachers could legally strike would be Oct. 16.

Dozens of teachers rallied outside the district office just before last night's mediation session which went into the evening. The two sides are about $1.2 million apart on salaries and retirement benefits over the three-year contract.
