We must cherish life and always protect it
This election, voters in the state of Washington will decide if they will legalize assisted suicide.
I'm sure it will be legally justified under the same misguided principal of "right to personal choice" as abortion.
What it truly reflects is the lack of respect for human life that continues to gain favor in our society.
Our responsibility as human beings is to foster and protect life, especially for those most vulnerable in society.
How much better would we be if we assisted mothers-to-be by helping them find a way to provide a loving and safe family environment in which to raise their children?
How much better if we took the time to comfort those who are terminally ill rather than finding ways to justify the end of their worldly existence?
I have personally experienced the concern and anguish that often accompanies these difficult moral decisions.
I have been fortunate to have concerned family, friends, and clergy, along with faith in God, to see me through.
All that we have in life is a gift.
With these gifts, we are challenged to share our time, talent and money and create a better world for those less fortunate or facing greater personal crisis than us.
