Briefs: Rosemont to vote on casino
The Rosemont Village Board has scheduled a special meeting for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, to vote on Trilliant Gaming Illinois LLC's proposal to build a casino in the town. Tuesday is the deadline for filing applications for the only available casino license with the Illinois Gaming Board. No information on Trilliant's plan was available Friday and Rosemont spokesman Gary Mack said acting Mayor Bradley Stephens doesn't plan to comment ahead of the meeting, which will be at village hall, 9501 Devon Ave. Des Plaines this week signed an agreement with Neil Bluhm's Midwest Gaming & Entertainment LLC for a casino in that city.
Tollway accident reported
A 25-year-old woman received minor injuries following a rollover accident on the Jane Addams Tollway Friday morning, officials said. Master Sgt. Jim Neylon of the Illinois State Police said the unnamed woman was driving her gold 2001 Acura in and out of the eastbound lanes at about 5:30 a.m. between Arlington Heights Road and Lee Street when she lost control of the car. He said the car slid onto the shoulder, slipped into the ditch, then rolled over. The woman was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with minor injuries, he said. The accident remains under investigation and citations are pending.
Where to apply for flood aid
The Federal Emergency Management Agency assistance has opened Disaster Recovery Centers in Chicago, Des Plaines and Wheaton. Before visiting the centers, those with losses should apply for assistance online at fema.gov, or by calling (800) 621-3362, or for TTY, (900) 263-7585. The three centers, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 7 days a week until further notice, are the Physical Education Building at Northeastern Illinois University, 3600 W. Foster Ave., Chicago; next to the Des Plaines Theater, 1486 Miner St., Des Plaines; and the Jack T. Knuepfer Building in the DuPage County office complex at 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. The Des Plaines office is the newest, having opened Friday. Residents should bring photo IDs, Social Security numbers, insurance information, proof of address and contact phone numbers in order to expedite the process. Financial assistance varies by applicant.
Fight leads to arrest
Rolling Meadows police arrested a 16-year-old male from Rolling Meadows for on a juvenile petition for aggravated battery after a fight Wednesday afternoon in the 2400 block Kirchoff Road. Police were told the arrestee began yelling gang-related slogans at a 17-year-old male walking on Kirchoff, believing he was involved in gangs. The arrestee then began punching and kicking the victim, police said. Witnesses called police, and an officer stopped a subject who matched the description of the assailant, who admitted involvement in the fight, police said.
