AARP needs volunteers for tax prep

AARP needs volunteers to help seniors with federal and state tax preparation. those who volunteer receive IRS sponsored manuals and classes in January. They must satisfactorily complete the class to be IRS certified. AARP and the IRS supply computers and forms to do the taxes. Work space is provided by the Des Plaines Park District and the Des Plaines Library three mornings a week. In some cases work is done in retirement communities for those who are unable to travel. Volunteers set which days they can work and may choose in which suburbs they would like to work. Call (847) 824-6929.

DP police plan neighborhood watch forums

The Des Plaines Police Department, in preparation for the holiday season, wants residents to be ready and informed regarding their safety and protection of their property. For this reason, three neighborhood watch meetings will be held:

Monday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m., St. Stephen's Church, Room 15

Wednesday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m., Friendship Park Conservatory

Thursday, Nov. 6, 7 p.m., City Hall, Room 101

Information sessions include the status of the Police Department; free home, business and church security surveys; tips to prevent residents from becoming victims of burglary or home damage; current status of the Neighborhood Watch Program and present new Neighborhood Watch signs. Meals drivers needed

The Kenneth Young Center in Elk Grove Village needs Meals-on-Wheels drivers in Elk Grove and Schaumburg Townships. Drivers are needed every other week.
