Naperville commutes snarled by water

Several main roads in Naperville remained under water Monday morning.

Closed roads included Washington Street from Royce Road to Weber Road. Jackson Street is closed from Main Street to Webster Avenue. Jefferson Street has only one lane open from Willoway to River.

Naper Boulevard also is closed south of Washington Street, so southbound travelers are being diverted to Route 53 or Plainfield/Naperville Road.

In nearby Aurora, city officials were meeting at 10 a.m. to discuss the remaining standing water situation and planning for the coming hours. Roads that were closed over the weekend were Orchard Road south of Galena Boulevard, Barnes Road between Jericho Road and Prairie Street, Hankes Road between Galena and Blackberry Ridge Road, Galena Road between Canterbury and Barnes, McCoy Road at the E, J&E railroad overpass, Kautz Road south of New York Street and Kautz Road east of Montgomery Road.

Both Naperville and Aurora officials will be updating residents throughout the day via their Web sites and e-mail alerts.
