Motorcyclist killed in crash near Streets of Woodfield

A 39-year-old Palatine man riding a motorcycle died after colliding with a car near Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg Sunday afternoon, police said.

The crash occurred at 4:42 p.m. at Higgins Road and Mall Drive.

Dean Schroeder was pronounced dead at 7:40 p.m., a spokesman with the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

Police say preliminary indications are that a car traveling westbound on Higgins Road made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle. Both vehicles are believed to have had a green light at Mall Drive.

Both drivers were taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead.

The condition of the car's driver, a 30-year old Ohio woman, has not been released, but police said her injuries were not life-threating.

Higgins Road, which is also Route 72, was closed until 9 p.m. while Schaumburg police investigated the crash, Sgt. John Nebl said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash and have not issued any citations.

The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet, Nebl said.
