Probe ongoing in fatal Schaumburg motorcycle wreck

It could take at least a week until any charges are filed in connection with Sunday's fatal motorcycle accident, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.

Dean Schroeder, 39, of Palatine died Sunday afternoon after his eastbound motorcycle was struck by a westbound Hyundai on Higgins Road near Mall Drive, by the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg.

The 30-year-old Ohio woman driving the Hyundai suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the Hyundai made a U-turn in front of the bike while the two vehicles had a green light at Mall Drive in opposite lanes. The crash took place a little less than a year after a car hit a crowd of people watching Septemberfest fireworks in Schaumburg.

It took police three months until the driver was charged in that wreck, which no one was seriously hurt. Nebl said that delay was due to lab results. Police reported no incidents at this year's Septemberfest, which happened over the weekend.
