Save money on kids' clothes, help your local school

The Parent Teacher Network of John Stewart Elementary School is holding a fall and winter clothing and toy sale from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the school, 817 Prairie Valley St. in Elburn.

The sale will feature infant wear, boys clothing through size 10 and girls clothing through junior sizes. There will also be games, puzzles, books, videos, jewelry and sports equipment.

"This sale has been going on for years," said Denise Blaszynski, publicity chair for the Parent Teacher League. "It's the same feeling year after year. People are giving back to the community. Families can find clothes at affordable prices and the proceeds go back to the children."

Donations are being accepted. Anyone interested in selling items on consignment can call Michelle Klecka at (630) 365-1518.

At Town and Country: Peter DuMelle is presenting "Parents and Teachers Guide to Cyber-Safety" from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at Town and Country Library, 320 E. North St., Elburn.

DuMelle will discuss how to prevent "cyber-bullying," ways in which children and teenagers use the Internet to degrade or humiliate their peers. Topics include Internet concerns, Spyware and viruses and cell phone abuse.

There is a $5 fee per family to cover the cost of materials. Participants will receive free software.

Sugar Grove Farmers Market: It's September and there are only two more farmers markets in Sugar Grove this season. You can stop in between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday Sept. 20 and between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday Sept. 27 (there are special extended hours) in the parking lot of the village hall, 10 Municipal Drive. It was the first year for the new location, and the first season that buyers can taste and purchase wine from Illinois vineyards.

Bring your best homemade fruit pie for judging this Saturday. Judging begins at 9 a.m. The word is that Village President Sean Michels will be one of the judges.

There will be special activities at the last farmers market of the season for children and adults, and drawings for fresh fruits and vegetables.

At Waubonsee Community College: Aurora's Second Ward Alderwoman, Juany Garza, will present "Citizenship and Democracy: Learn How Your Local Government Works" from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22 in Rooms 133-134 of Waubonsee Community College's downtown Aurora Campus, 5 E. Galena Blvd.
