Don't leave job in hands of 'learner'

I found the letter printed in a recent Herald from an Elgin reader most interesting. It was titled "Experience doesn't equal effectiveness." The writer then goes on to assail John McCain receiving some bad advice regarding the Republic of Georgia. He concludes that we should be focusing on the judgment of our presidential candidates and their close advisers, not "experience."

I disagree; I think both must be considered. Perhaps one should question the judgment of a presidential candidate who's church minister has preached nothing but hate for the last 20 years he has been a member. Perhaps it is his judgment in associating with many of the same shady characters as our beloved corrupt governor would be a good test. Did not Mr. Obama stand with Blagojevich and promise change to the voters in Illinois, only to have it lead to one of the most corrupt governments in Illinois history?

Having a candidate who has the vast experience of a John McCain, one can always find where he has made a mistake. At the same time, he has also been instrumental in sponsoring and getting some very good legislation passed. Will someone please list for me three of Obama's top three legislative accomplishments?

Given a choice of an experienced candidate who has shown excellent judgment many times, but not always, and a totally inexperienced candidate, with no record of accomplishment, and very poor judgment in his selection of associates and the folks he surrounds himself with, I will take the former hands down. We cannot afford to put our national security into the hands of a candidate on their learner's permit.
