Train traffic should be spread around region
I am tired of the people in Barrington complaining about train issues that the Des Plaines area lives with daily. It's about time some of the train activity that is a constant here is finally rerouted to the west.
Barrington acts as if they're too good and above everyone else when it comes to trains. Apparently the only trains they want to come into their town are those that will take them to the opera, the theater or high priced restaurants in downtown Chicago. Superintendent Tom Leonard from Barrington said the EJ&E tracks "cut through the heart of District 220" and the deal would negatively impact "safety, efficiency and costs."
There are train tracks in Des Plaines that run through and across the high school district, Dr. Leonard, you learn to adjust; it's not the end of the world.
I would really like to hear more of the "plusses" and the positive impact of moving some of these train routes from this area to the west. CN should have a meeting in Des Plaines and share the details of how the proposal will alleviate the congestion there. I would love to be able to drive east from Mount Prospect and not get stuck at the more than 37 train crossings in Des Plaines.
As for Fox Point resident Linda Reinhard, this merger will not "decimate" (definition from Webster: to destroy a large part of) Barrington and your subdivision of 411 homes. What it might do is spread some of the train traffic more equitably across all of the towns and villages here in the NW suburbs and beyond.
