Collect for Marklund:

On Friday and Saturday Marklund will need volunteers for McFry Days. Volunteers are needed to hand out coupons for McDonald's french fries in exchange for spare change. Marklund is a nonprofit network of services that helps infants, children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. Among other facilities, it runs its main campus at Mill Creek and the Philip Center for Children in Bloomingdale. The four-hour shifts run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. To volunteer, call (630) 593-5473 or e-mail sarmbruster@marklund.org.

Smelt Fry in South Elgin:

The South Elgin Lions Club will host its first-ever smelt fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at 500 Fulton St. The cost is $7 and includes smelt, fries, coleslaw and a dinner. A cash bar with $1 drafts also is available, along with free hot dogs for kids. Carryout dinners also are available and a disc jockey will begin playing music at 7 p.m. Call (847) 888-9575.

Get free legal advice:

In celebration of its 150th anniversary, the Kane County Bar Association has scheduled monthly Ask a Lawyer Days throughout 2008. Sell kids clothing:

The Alice Gustafson School PTO in Batavia is seeking sellers for its Gently Used Children's Clothing and Toy Resale Sept. 19 and 20. The sale features all-season infant through teen clothing, maternity wear, baby equipment and furniture, shoes, uniforms, sporting goods, costumes, books, games, videos and toys. Art wanted for exhibit:

The Aurora Public Art Commission seeks works for an exhibit, "Lost and Found: The Art of Making Art After an Extended Interlude." Artists are invited to submit two- and three-dimensional pieces. The exhibit will go on display in 2009. Entry deadline is Sept. 26. Artists should send a CD with images of four to 10 recent works including dates, resume, address, phone number, e-mail address, artist's statement and Web site/online gallery if applicable to Aurora Public Art Commission, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60507. Artists who want the packet returned should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
