• Air Force ROTC Cadet Peter J. Bilyk was involved in an intensive training session at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., -- a basic training of sorts for future Air Force officers. More than 2,300 cadets from universities and colleges throughout the nation converged there for the intense physical and mental challenge that could eventually lead to commissioning as a second lieutenant.

Bilyk is the son of Peter and Theresia Bilyk of Carpentersville. He is a 2006 graduate of Christian Liberty Academy in Carpentersville. He is currently attending Loyola University in Chicago, majoring in economics.

• Air Force Airman Jason Debelevich has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Debelevich earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of John Debelevich of Woodridge and Margaret Mach of Elburn. In 2007, the airman graduated from Downers Grove North High School.

• Air Force Airman Joshua A. Reese has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. He is the son of Laurie and James Gould of Elgin.

• Air Force Airman William H. Schurak has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations. Schurak is the son of Sandy Fowler of Lake in the Hills and stepson of Dan Fowler of Crystal Lake. In 2006, the airman graduated from Crystal Lake South High School.

• Army Capt. Joshua E. Eggar has completed the Sapper Leader Course at the U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

The course trains selected combat engineer unit leaders in leadership skills, combat engineer and infantry battle drills, and specialized engineer and infantry techniques required to perform as members of a Sapper Battalion.

The course is designed to build cohesion and esprit de corps by training individuals in troop leading procedures, demolitions (conventional and expedient), mountainous terrain operations, aerial operations, airborne operations, foreign weapons, map reading and land navigation, waterborne operations, contingency threat identification, and field training exercises.

Eggar, an engineer, is assigned to the 554th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. He has six years of military service.

He is the son of Jack and Dona Eggar of St. Charles. The captain received a bachelor's degree in 2001 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N.Y.
