Family Fishing Derby: 8 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at North Bay Pavilion at Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. Catch-and-release fishing derby for prizes. Limited to the first 100 anglers. All ages are invited. The cost is $3 per person. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment. A limited supply of fishing gear will be available on a first-come basis. Worms will be sold at the event for $3 per dozen. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Rink Side Celebration: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, Rink Side, in Gurnee Mills Mall, parking lot "J." Lake Park Family Open: 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20; Lake Park Golf Course, 1015 Howard Ave. at Lee Street. Families with children ages 7 years and older are invited to play the par 3, 18 hole course. Lady Cougars Tryouts: 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 and 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, Vernon Hills High School, 145 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. Tryouts for the Vernon Hills Lady Cougars Feeder Basketball Program for grades 5-8. Players must live in High School District 128 and plan to attend VHHS.
