No one hurt in Crystal Lake fire

No injuries were reported in an early morning fire in Crystal Lake, fire officials said.

Officials said units responded to an apartment fire at 164 W. Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake at 7:24 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The first unit said heavy smoke was reported coming out of the second story window in the rear of the building, said Battalion Chief Robert Olszewski.

One occupant was found trapped on a second floor balcony in the rear of the building. He said units laddered the balcony and removed the man.

He added fire crews quickly entered the building and was able to confine the fire to a single room. The fire was under control within 10 minutes, he said.

The damage was estimated to be about $15,000, Olszewski said, though the building is deemed uninhabitable by the city building department.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Olszewski said. Fire departments from McHenry and Huntley were called in to assist in the blaze.
