Island Lake street brawl sends at least two to hospital

At least two men were sent to the hospital Saturday morning after a street brawl erupted on Woodlawn Drive, a police spokeswoman said.

About eight to 10 people got into a fight, which then escalated when neighbors intervened to try to break it up, the spokeswoman said. One man apparently beat another with a pipe and the windshield on a woman's car parked on the block was broken in the donnybrook.

One of the two hospitalized men required surgery to reattach a severed finger, the spokeswoman said. Alcohol apparently was involved in the incident, she said.

No charges had been filed as of Saturday afternoon, but could come once the investigation is complete, she said.
