Lake in the Hills cyclist injured

Lake in the Hills police said a 77-year-old man remained in stable condition Friday after the bicycle on which he was riding crashed into the side of a pickup truck traveling westbound on Algonquin Road.

Jose Deloera was pedalling north on Hanson Road at 5:50 p.m. Thursday. While traveling down a hill at the intersection of Hanson and Algonquin roads, he gained too much speed and couldn't slow himself.

He crashed into the side of the pickup truck, landed on the ground and was transported to Sherman Hospital in Elgin with a head injury.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and there was little damage to his vehicle, police said.

Sgt. Robert Harper of the Lake in the Hills Police Department said their investigation was completed Friday and no citations were issued.
