Island Lake meeting:

The Island Lake village board meets Thursday to discuss a proposal to join the Connect-CTY emergency notification system. The phone system gives village officials the ability to contact every phone number in the village with emergency notifications. Other villages, including Fox Lake, Round Lake Beach and Vernon Hills, use the system. The village board will discuss the system during its committee meeting at 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 3720 Greenleaf Ave.

Flooding help:

Registration deadlines are approaching for individuals, businesses and units of local government to apply for financial assistance for damage caused by storms or flooding between June 1 through July 22. Assistance is available to local government and nonprofit organizations that incurred at least $1,000 of expenses. Deadline to apply is Aug. 15. Call (217) 782-871. And, individual assistance may provide help with the costs of repairing wells and septic system damaged by flooding. Deadline is Aug. 25. Call (800) 621-3362 or visit www.FEMA.gov.assistance.

Mundelein cruise night:

Mundelein MainStreet will host the "Park on Park" cruise night, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Seymour Avenue and Park Street. Participating car owners who bring nonperishable food for the Fremont Township food pantry will receive dash plaques. Attendees who donate food will get plaques, too, while they last.

Sign up for notices:

Residents can officially sign up for a notification system through the village of Buffalo Grove. The system will be used to warn residents of emergencies, such as a boil order. Residents can follow the line on the right side of the village's Web site, www.vbg.org, to Connect CTY. Residents and business owners can enter phone numbers and e-mail addresses for notifications.

Barrington bean bags:

Registration is open for the first Barrington Bean Bag Tournament. The tournament will take place during Barrington's final Summer Fun Friday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 in front of Egg Harbor Cafe. Roquemore, Barrington's newest Rock 'n Roll Band, will play oldies on the steps of Egg Harbor Café. Food and drinks will be available from Sergio's Pizza, Pasta and Ribs.
