St. Charles man found guilty in '05 home invasion
A 25-year-old man was convicted Tuesday in a 2005 home invasion and beating on St. Charles' west side.
James C. Szczesny of St. Charles faces between six and 30 years in prison when he's sentenced Sept. 3 by Kane County Associate Judge Leonard P. Wojtecki.
Szczesny was found guilty of home invasion at the close of a six-day trial in which jurors deliberated about seven hours, officials said. An accomplice was convicted in September, and a case against another suspect is still pending.
Prosecutors alleged that Szczesny and another man entered a home on the 200 block of North 15th Street in St. Charles on Aug. 25, 2005, and beat three residents inside. Three other occupants were not hurt, according to police.
Co-defendant Sean P. Zeleny, 25, of Geneva was convicted last year of three counts of home invasion and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Charges are pending against Lauren Hruby, 24, of Warrenville, who authorities say was the getaway driver.
