A real scenario for outright socialism
A letter in the Aug. 16 Daily Herald makes the following statement: "A president could no more change our economic system than could an ordinary citizen."
That is essentially correct. But let us factor in several other considerations.
Suppose a very liberal president was fully supported by a very liberal Congress.
Collectively they then packed the Supreme Court with similar thinking judges.
Then, my friends, you are on the path to socialism.
Perhaps I should say you have arrived. One might even call it a mild dictatorship since who then can stop them?
I personally witnessed the start of it under the great sociocrat FDR. Kennedy and Johnson took another whack at it.
Look at the facts. If having half the population support the other half is not socialism, what is? We are taxed, taxed and retaxed to support socialistic programs.
Let's take a look at history. But first let us assume the very liberal government overturns past supreme court decisions and adopts a total gun control system.
We would have an all-controlling government and a helpless population. Does that ring a bell, folks? If it doesn't, think Russia circa 1917, Germany circa 1933, to name a few.
If that's what you want, go ahead and elect Obama for president and send a few more Kennedys and Durbins to Congress.
Then 50 years from now, as you lay in your grave, you can rest assured that you grandchildren are well taken care of by the liberals. The only thing is, who is paying the bill?
