Police beat

Des Plaines

• A $600 laptop computer was stolen Aug. 3 after the owner accidentally left her backpack on a bench at the bus terminal, 1501 E. Miner St. The woman got on her bus without her backpack; the pack was later turned in but the laptop inside was missing.

• Rocks broke two kitchen windows at a home on the 300 block of Oak Street around 11:50 p.m. Aug. 11. Damage was estimated at $200.

Mount Prospect

• A 1998 Cadillac Deville on the 1200 block of Wheeling Road was vandalized overnight Aug. 9-10. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

• A woman left her cell phone on a table at a restaurant on the 300 block of East Euclid Avenue between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Aug. 12, and later returned for it only to find it stolen. Loss was estimated at $500.

Prospect Heights

• A 2002 Honda Civic on the 800 block of East Old Willow Road was broken into and a cell phone charger and GPS holder stolen between 7 p.m. Aug. 7 and 7 a.m. Aug. 8. Damage and the loss were estimated at $190.

• An I-Pass transponder and a garage remote control were taken between 11 p.m. and midnight Aug. 9 out of an unlocked 1998 Mercury Sable on the 400 block of West Olive Street. A loss estimate was not available.

• A man stole a chain saw out of an open garage on the 400 block of West Olive Street around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 8 but dropped it when the man who owned it gave chase.
