Last pass the lone highlight

The highlight of an otherwise uninspiring QB performance came on the final play Saturday night, when Kyle Orton fired a 35-yard TD pass to rookie Earl Bennett with 25 seconds left in the hurry-up offense that started with 1:15 on the clock. Orton was 4-for-4 on the march, including completions to Fontel Mines, Garrett Wolfe and Bennett that preceded the TD.

With Rex Grossman directing the starters in the same drill, they were only able to position Robbie Gould for a 55-yard FG attempt that was left and short. Grossman completed 4 of 8 passes during the possession.

Both quarterbacks were inaccurate on longer throws, and Grossman's screen pass was intercepted by defensive end Alex Brown.

Third-stringer Caleb Hanie, in limited reps, was 4-for-4 and launched a perfectly thrown bomb that was hauled in by rookie Marcus Monk along the sideline.
