Batavia Bachelors and Bachelorettes Square Dancing Club: The club meets for the summer in the air-conditioned hall at Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 S. Rush St., Roselle. Dancing is from 8 to 10:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays. On Friday, it will be the 34th anniversary dance with Tom Roper and Angie and Bob Huckeby. Fire and Iron Firefighters Motorcycle Club: The Fire and Iron Firefighters Motorcycle Club South Elgin Station 20 will host its first fundraiser ride to benefit Williams Syndrome Association on Sunday. It begins at 10 a.m. at Hoss' Roadhouse on Route 59 and Army Trail Road in Bartlett. There will be a 50/50 raffle and other prizes. Kane County Genealogical Society: The Kane County Genealogical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in the first-floor meeting room of the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St., Geneva.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Grace DuMelle will discuss "Uncovering Your Past in Land Records." Learn how to access a trove of public records that can provide maiden names, death dates, proof of relationships and much more. Once knowledgeable about two types of indexing systems (tract book and grantor-grantee) one can work in any county in the U.S., including Kane, Cook, Lake, and DuPage. Specialized maps and legalese will also be deciphered.

Grace DuMelle is the author of "Finding Your Chicago Ancestors," now in its second printing from Lake Claremont Press. Written for beginners, it has received state, regional and national awards for instructional nonfiction. DuMelle is works with the Newberry Library, where she is on staff at the Local and Family History Department. Her background is in writing, with a magna cum laude degree from Dominican University in River Forest. She speaks frequently about genealogy and has appeared on WGN Radio and WLS TV, as well as Ancestry, Family Tree and Real Simple magazines.

Zonta Club: Longing for a younger look? Interested in getting rid of those lines, wrinkles, sags and not so slender areas? Looking for some fellowship and network opportunities with professional women in your community? The Zonta Club of St. Charles-Geneva-Batavia presents an evening with Dr. Jennifer Hein of the Women's Institute of Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Surgery. Learn about the benefits of cosmetic enhancement. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month at Prairie Landing Golf Course in West Chicago. Fox Valley Woodworkers: Fox Valley Woodworkers Club will meet from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 2 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln Ave., Batavia. Members Mike Brady and Mike Bridger present "Hand Tools: Buying, Using, Restoring them and Much More." Learn how and why to choose to use a traditional hand tool to achieve the results you desire in your projects. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The club has been known as a gathering place for woodworking enthusiasts of all ages and levels of experience since 1984. Kane County Audubon Society: The public is invited to programs and activities of the Kane County Audubon Society.

On Sept. 6, take a field trip at 8 a.m. to Nelson Lake, Dick Young Forest Preserve. On the first Saturday of each month, Kane County Audubon invites the public to join them as they view the birds of Nelson Lake. Meet in the parking lot by the silo, which is on the west side of Nelson Lake Road, about three-quarter mile south of Main Street and two miles west of Randall Road in Batavia. On Sept. 10, join in Meeting Night at 6 p.m. at Peck Farm located at Peck and Kaneville roads, about half-mile west of Randall Road in Geneva. Welcome Club: The Welcome Club of the Fox Valley invites those with an interest in knowing more about the area to attend the general meeting and monthly program at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive in Geneva.

Mickey Miller, administrator of Elderday Center in Batavia, and Kally Klose, a board member and volunteer, will be the special guests. They will share the details of their dedication and love, that have helped them to keep the facility open for the last 10 years, and inspire attendees on how they, too, can be of help. In addition to the program, new residents to the area, and new club members are encouraged to come to meet all the board members and learn more about the club and the various special interest groups coordinated by members. Various volunteer activities chairwomen will be there, with signup sheets, and be ready to answer your questions about numerous activities.

Club activities include breakfast, lunch, and dinner outings; group games such as Bunco, bridge, mah jongg, pinochle, tile rummy, Mexican train dominoes, and scrabble; Lifestories, a memoir group, mini-book groups, movie and theater outings; a sewing group; a walking group; a special singles group; an end-of-year picnic; informal dinner parties; and more. New activities and interests groups are added frequently by members. Enjoy an evening of seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and making plans for a fun-filled year.

The group meets regularly during the months of September through June. Each monthly meeting includes a meet-and-greet, which kicks off the meeting, followed by a short general business meeting, an entertaining and informative program. Past programs have included: Nutrition advice, tips on foolproof cooking, handwriting analysis, ask the attorney, landscaping ideas, interior decorating, identity theft, organizing your home, updating your wardrobe with recyclable or vintage items, crime prevention strategies, and more. The annual membership fee of $25 provides you with a membership directory and a monthly newsletter that recaps the upcoming monthly events and activities. Fox West Philanthropy Network: On Sept. 9, Fox West Philanthropy Network will present "Training and Motivating Volunteers" presented by Marc P. Hilton, vice president of Campbell and Company.

Hilton has a distinguished career in the field of fundraising. He has over 30 years of professional development experience with higher education, cultural institutions and professional societies. Known for his energy and insatiable curiosity, Hilton brings considerable breathe and energy to his clients. This "Lunch and Learn" presentation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Eagle Brook Country Club, 2280 Fargo Blvd., off Randall Road in Geneva.
