Tap your inner superstar with Schaumburg Idol
Sing your heart out and celebrate a musical milestone with Schaumburg Park District this summer.
Schaumburg Idol auditions are set for April 26 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Twelve contestants will be chosen to compete for eight spots which will then be narrowed down to four, then two and eventually one Schaumburg Idol. Contestants advance according to the highest combined votes from judges and the community. Prizes include an opportunity to record a demo CD at a professional studio.
As part of the Idol process, contestants also have a chance to work with and receive feedback from professional musicians. The 12 contestants chosen will record video performances. Recordings begin in June.
With this year marking the 10th anniversary of Schaumburg Idol, a number of special activities are planned, including the return of past winners. Local musicians who've achieved success in the industry also will appear as guest judges.
"We've been able to work with so many talented people over the past decade," said Cultural Arts Supervisor Beth Waller. "It's incredible. Many of them have gone on to start their own musical careers and it's great to see where their skills have taken them."
To be eligible for Schaumburg Idol, contestants must be age 13 or older and not party to a contract for performing services. Interested individuals must register, complete the audition entry form and pay the audition fee at parkfun.com. Once registered, contestants will be contacted to set up an audition time. Contestants must perform a one-minute selection from a song of their choice. Performances may be a cappella or accompanied by a cassette or CD provided by the contestant. No rap songs or inappropriate language is permitted.
