Police beat
Arlington Heights
• Two vehicles were broken into between 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. Aug. 4 in a parking lot on the 300 block of East Hintz Road. An MP3 player was stolen from a 2005 Chevrolet Impala and a GPS unit out of a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. The total damage and thefts were estimated at $485.
• A 2004 Ford Expedition on the 1700 block of South Surrey Ridge Drive was broken into and a GPS unit and wallet stolen between 6:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 10:10 a.m. Aug. 5. A loss estimate was not available.
Des Plaines
• Jonathan A. Mitchell, 24, 1917 Emerson St., Evanston, and Patrick W. Taylor, 17, 259 Dover Drive, Apt. 1, Des Plaines, were arrested around 10:40 p.m. Aug. 2 and charged with felony burglary, after they were accused of breaking into a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro on the 1400 block of Marshall Drive. Police said witnesses chased Mitchell and caught him near Friendship Park; officers found Taylor on the 1200 block of Elmhurst Road. They are accused of taking a cell phone charger and loose change out of the Camaro. A court date was not available.
• A warehouse at 1797 Winthrop was broken into between 5 p.m. July 31 and 1 p.m. Aug. 4 and $4,450 worth of equipment, wire and electronics taken.
Mount Prospect
• Rosendo Florencio, 30, 1109 Holiday Lane, Apt. 11, Des Plaines, was arrested around 11:20 a.m. Aug. 3 and charged with retail theft from Kohl's, 1500 S. Elmhurst Road. His court date is Aug. 27.
• A 1998 Toyota RAV4 in an apartment lot on the 1400 block of South Busse Road was broken into between 2 and 2:30 a.m. Aug. 5, and jewelry stolen. The jewelry and damage together was valued at about $750.
Prospect Heights
• A 13-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were hit by pellets from a BB gun on the 700 block of Piper Lane around 10 p.m. Aug. 1. Police said a gang member riding in a white car with three others shot the pellets at the teenagers, but left before police arrived. The teens were treated at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Wheeling
• Fidel Flores Jr., 23, 464 Inverrary Lane, Deerfield, was arrested around 2:20 a.m. Aug. 3 at Lake-Cook and McHenry roads and charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol. His court date is Sept. 3.
• The men's and women's restrooms at Childerly Park, 506 McHenry Road, were vandalized with graffiti between 6 a.m. Aug. 3 and 8:15 a.m. Aug. 4. A damage estimate was not available.
