Welcome phone call from congressman

Have you ever been interrupted by a telemarketer during your family dinner?

Such unsolicited phone calls are an unwelcome nuisance that, unfortunately, has become a part of our lives.

However, I recently received a phone call from our local congressman, Peter Roskam. Not an automated call in Roskam's voice, although that is how it started.

Roskam called to invite me to participate in a telephone conference call where I could talk directly to him, in Washington, about whatever was on my mind. First, I was shocked to get a call from my congressman, but I was even more surprised that he was spending his time to find out what was important to me.

I was able to ask Congressman Roskam what Congress was doing to help ease prices at the gas pump. Many of the calls surrounded this topic, but people were able to ask him absolutely anything.

Roskam listened to each question intently and gave detailed, thoughtful responses. His call was a refreshing change!
