Fox Valley Norwegian-Americans to hold fish-soup cook off

Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge 5-472 will hold its first fiskesuppe, fish-soup cook off, on Sunday, Feb. 3, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 1233 Douglas Ave. in Montgomery.

Lodge members will judge entries at 1 p.m. to crown a champion.

The cook off will highlight the Norwegian-American social group's monthly membership meeting. Members will prepare their recipes in advance for judging and consumption at the meeting.

Barb Johnson of Yorkville, lodge cultural director, said "All entries must include fish - but the rest is up to you!"

Contestants' recipes will be collected for a cookbook to be published by the Norsk Museum in Norway, Illinois, this fall.

The cook off continues a monthly cooking club sponsored by the lodge. Members prepare recipes in advance or in the church kitchen for serving at a potluck luncheon.
