Police: Man confessed to selling guns

A Mount Prospect man has admitted to stealing 19 guns from a Des Plaines gun shop and then selling all but one to a Chicago street gang, police reports show.

Mikolaj Lakomski, 27, confessed following his arrest Tuesday on charges of robbing a McDonald's restaurant at 100 W. Rand Road in Mount Prospect on April 11, police say.

Police apprehended Lakomski, of 400 E. Kensington Road, at the Rolling Meadows courthouse, where he was attending a separate hearing in connection with an attempted robbery behind an Arlington Heights video store at Rand and Camp McDonald roads on May 23.

During interviews this week with police, Lakomski admitted to twice robbing the Maxon Gun Shop in Des Plaines, police said. He then sold 18 guns to the Chicago gang for between $400 and $500, reports show.

Lakomski's arrest this week followed an investigation into the April robbery. Police reports state security camera photos showed Lakomski trying to pry open the McDonald's drive-through window.

Lakomski is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12.

When that failed, Lakomski smashed the window with a hammer and left the area for 40 minutes. When police didn't show up, he climbed through the window and grabbed two cash drawers that turned out to be empty, the reports say.

Mount Prospect police sent the security camera photos to other departments. That's when an Arlington Heights detective noticed Lakomski matched the description of the suspect in the video store robbery. He was wearing the same clothes as in the McDonald's burglary and officers found the hammer in his car, reports added.
