Briefs: Nominate a business

Wednesday is your last chance to nominate a Lake in the Hills business for the Gordon Larson Business Achievement award, which honors contributions businesses have made to the community. The village's business relations committee reviews applications. Nomination forms are available at www.lith.org. The winner will be announced Aug. 14.

Village stickers in force

Carpentersville residents must display village vehicles stickers as of today. Stickers are available from the finance department at village hall. Passenger vehicle stickers are $25. Seniors, disabled residents and veterans may purchase stickers for $1. Vehicle stickers are valid through June 30, 2009. Late fees apply for stickers purchased after Wednesday.

Free open gyms all summer

The Elgin Police Department school liaison program will sponsor a free open gym program for kids 8 to 16 through Aug. 8. At U-46 schools from 5:30 to 9 p.m., kids can play basketball, kickball, soccer, floor hockey, swimming or do arts and crafts. Speakers will give presentations on baking, bicycle safety, gang awareness and prevention, life skills and drug and alcohol awareness. A waiver and participation form is required.
