Shalin N. Amin was promoted to the rank of senior airman in the United States Air Force.

Amin, a material management journeyman with two years of military service, is assigned to the 436th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Dover Air Force Base, Del. He is the son of Nalin R. Amin of Hoffman Estates and the nephew of Dinesh Amin also of Hoffman Estates. The airman in is a 2005 graduate of James B. Conant High School.

• Army Pfc. Andrew P. Haslem graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training. Haslem, the son of Jay Haslem and Barb Haslem, both of Palatine, is a 2007 graduate of Palatine High School.

• Army 2nd Lt. Richard D. Kim graduated from the Army Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training is designed to ensure a tough, standardized, small-unit leadership experience for officers. The primary mission of the course is to develop and produce adaptive officers with increased maturity, confidence and competence that share a common bond with their combined arms peers and are prepared to lead small units upon arrival at their first assignment. Kim, an infantry officer, is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning. He is the son of John H. and Dal S. Kim of Long Grove. Kim, a 2003 Stevenson High School, Lincolnshire, graduate, received a bachelor's degree from Penn State University, University Park, in 2007.

• Army Pfc. Lucan A. Logan graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training. Logan is the son of Irene Shewchuk of Barrington.

• Army Pvt. Matthew A. Kwapisz has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training. Kwapisz, the son of Antoni and Krystna Kleszczewski of Streamwood, is a 2005 graduate of Maine South High School, Park Ridge.

• Laura E. Tabrosky was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army after successfully completing the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) program and graduating with a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University, Macomb.

The new officer will be branched to a specific corps in the Army to serve on active duty or in the National Guard or Reserve. The lieutenant will attend an officer basic course relating to her particular military occupational specialty/job. Afterward, she will complete advanced training by attending basic officer leadership courses for career progression purposes.

Tabrosky is the daughter of Robert J. and Lisa E. Tabrosky of Palatine. In 2004, the lieutenant graduated from William Fremd High School, Palatine.
