The 10th District carpetbagger issue

The American Heritage Dictionary defines a "carpetbagger" as an outsider, especially a politician, who presumptuously seeks a position or success in a new locality.

Dan Seals fits that definition perfectly.

The two key words in that definition are "outsider" and "presumptuous."

It is well established that Mr. Seals is an outsider. He did not grow up in the 10th District, he didn't go to school in the 10th District and he's never worked in the 10th District.

My guess is he couldn't even find the 10th district on a map until he decided he wanted to represent it.

Presumptuous applies as well. Presumptuous is the only word available to describe a man who is running for United States Congressman and can only point to an internship when asked for his experience in the field.

Of course, a carpetbagger, while a new resident, usually does live in the area that he hopes to represent. What does it say about Seals when he refuses to do even that?
