New west side Elgin park

The grand opening of Settler's Park on Elgin's far west side will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Residents in the Providence subdivision and community residents are invited to celebration at the three-acre park at Sutton and Cranston roads. It includes a playground, a picnic shelter, two tennis courts and a large sports field. Board seeks applicants

The Cary District 26 school board is seeking applicants to fill the open seat left when Kristin Lewis resigned July 2. Lewis was appointed to the board in May 2006 and was elected to the board in April 2007. The appointee will serve through the April 2009 election. After a public meeting to introduce the applicants to the public, the board will interview the candidates privately. Applicants must be district residents and at least 18 years of age. Nursing exams at ECC

Elgin Community College's professional nursing program will hold admission exams at 10 a.m. July 24 in Room 183 of the Health and Business Technology Building on the college's main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Sponsored by the National League for Nursing, the exams take 4 hours. The exam is a prerequisite for admission into the program, and is an opportunity for entry into the spring or fall 2009 classes. Registration is required and can be done by visiting nlnonlinetesting.org/pax. The registration deadline is Monday, July 21. Cost per exam is $85. Call (847) 214-7219.
