Congressman not an entry-level job
United States congressman is not an entry-level position.
An effective representative must know his district inside and out and be familiar with the legislative process. These things cannot be picked up on the fly.
The job requires experience. That is why I will not be voting for Dan Seals in November.
Seals may be well intentioned, but the only legislative experience he can claim is a two-year internship. He has never lived in the district and cannot credibly claim to know its citizens and their needs.
The next Congress will need to deal with a new president with his own legislative agenda, a teetering economy, an energy crisis and continuing tensions in the Middle East.
This is not the time to be training a new congressman on the job. We need an experienced representative with a record of getting things done. That man is Mark Kirk.
