Barrington Brew Fest set for Saturday
The fifth annual Barrington Brew Fest will be held from 3-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Fourth of July Tent in downtown Barrington. Hosted by the Barrington Village Association, the event will feature 25 regional and international brewers showcasing more than 50 beers. Local entries include The Onion Pub & Brewery, The Brass Restaurant & Brewery, Prairie Rock, The Ram and Emmett's. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 day of event. Ticket price includes admission, all tastings, a commemorative T-shirt to the first 500 advance sales, commemorative glass and event program. Knupper's offers Art in Garden Saturday
Knupper's Nursery in Palatine will host Art in the Garden from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature works by more than 40 Chicago-area artists. The nursery, located at 1801 N. Rand Road, will provide live music, refreshments and face painting. Call (847) 359-1080.
Literacy program celebrates birthday
The Partners in Adult Learning Program will celebrate its 10th anniversary from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. July 16 at the Clearbrook Getz Building, 746 S. Vermont St., Palatine. Guests will be treated to refreshments and cake along with a short program honoring key supporters at 10:30 a.m.
PAL is a partnership between Clearbrook, Northwest Special Recreational Association, Community Alternatives Unlimited and families of young adults over 18 with developmental disabilities and physical challenges, who have graduated out of the school system.
Library board seeks student advisers
Students ages 15-20 are invited to apply for student advisory trustee positions on the Schaumburg Township District Library board of trustees. Those who are accepted will attend board meetings and provide ideas for ways the library can better serve young people. The term will begin Sept. 1 and end Aug. 1, 2009. Student trustees will be required to attend library board meetings and occasional programs, then provide written feedback to their board and staff liaisons.
