Let's honor troops every day, not just holidays
While we honor our troops on Memorial Day and Flag Day, the rest of the time (they are) forgotten.
"Support Your Troops and Their Families" have helped in sending care packages of items they can use - no glass containers.
My own personal opinion - why do we have to pay postage for boxes going over to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? They should be free. We are charged a lot for postage of a 35-pound box.
We had big doings for the honor roll of Hanover Township veterans last Friday the 13th. A great buffet was presented by the Hanover Township administration, a ceremony and we honored the roll call of veterans here now and those who have passed away. Then the flag ceremony.
On Saturday I talked to some of our soldiers who just got back from Iraq. Things are rough over there and some are wondering what they can expect to come home. No jobs, no benefits and worrying about their home, whether it will be foreclosed.
We need help from the people, supplies for our troops and money. We got support from the Schaumburg Area Democratic Party and Metal Workers Local Union 73. Our goal is to support our troops by giving a home away from home.
In Iraq and Afghanistan it's 140 in the shade. We try and make it easier for them. We put them in harm's way by the votes for a president who lied and our troops are dying because of the lie.
Any organization, business or industry that would like to join, call (630) 550-5518. Let's show them we care.
I have a little poem I wrote: "We are proud of the men and women in uniform who have stood tall; we thank you and your families for the sacrifice you are making to defend our freedom.
"We pray for your safety during this time of war, and we hope for your safe return.
"We have honored those who have given their lives for our country and proud to honor our troops, fighting to protect America.
Well I hope this explains why we are doing what we have been doing for past four years.
Incidentally we are starting a veteran political association to find out who we should vote for that supports the troops and thinking of our troops when they get home.
They should get 100 percent benefits and not have to worry, as they fought for us and we should fight for them.
