Bob Frisk a true sports icon
Bob Frisk is all that is right with life in general and high school sports in particular. He is a 'first-class' person and a true icon. Bob's weekly columns have always been a must-read for me and many, many others. I've officiated high school basketball and football in the Chicagoland area for 22 years, along with running a T-ball program for the Arlington Heights Park District for the past 21 summers. My first encounter with Bob was at a T-ball game he attended due to word-of-mouth from a friend of his. Bob wrote a column about what he saw that day at Camelot Park, with the kids, as usual, being the focus of his story. Bob mentioned my officiating in that column, and included me in other columns as he discussed the importance of doing things for the kids. I made a point of attending the Bob Frisk Sleighbell Classic, held this past Saturday evening at Grace Gym, a place near and dear to Bob. It was a terrific evening and a fitting tribute to a Daily Herald icon. I speak for many players, coaches, fans and officials in wishing Bob all the best as he begins his journey into retirement. Thanks for everything, Bob.
