Lawyer charged in crash that injured four

A Fox Lake lawyer is charged with felony driving under the influence after a Sunday morning crash that injured four people.

Julio Argueta, 34, was ordered held on $100,000 bond after a court appearance Monday.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Robert Money said Argueta, of 74 E. Grand Ave., was northbound on Route 21 in Gurnee at 1:49 a.m. Sunday when he attempted to turn left onto Grand Avenue.

Money said Argueta turned directly in the path of a vehicle occupied by three women, and the cars collided.

All three women and a passenger in Argueta's car were injured. The driver of the car carrying the women suffered a broken shoulder, a passenger who was pregnant was forced to undergo an emergency C-section and another passenger suffered a broken skull, Money said.

A male passenger in Argueta's car suffered facial cuts and was treated at the scene.

Money said Gurnee police at the scene detected a strong odor of alcohol from Argueta, and he refused to answer any of their questions.

A blood test revealed Argueta's blood alcohol content was .281 percent, Money said, more than three times the intoxication level of .08 percent.

Associate Judge Raymond Collins said Argueta would have to post $10,000 in cash to be released from custody, and ordered him not to consume alcohol while his case is pending.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 25. Argueta faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison if convicted but would also be eligible for probation.
