'Strive for 5' run includes events for all ages
Tomorrow is the last day for runners to get the early bird registration rate of $20 in the Mount Prospect Park District's annual "Strive for 5" 5K run, scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, June 14 at Lions Memorial Park, 411 S. Maple St., Mount Prospect. Those registering Saturday or later will pay $25.
The first 100 who register will also receive a sports towel and it appears that some of those still remain, too.
This will be the 21st annual run on the USATF-certified course. The race will be professionally timed and all proceeds benefit the park district's scholarship program.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and snacks. Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in each age group. The top male and female finishers overall will each receive $100 cash.
Immediately following the 5K race there will also be a 50-yard dash for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds and a Quarter Mile Race for children ages 5 to 10. The entry fee for those races is $7. All participants get a medal, T-shirt and snack.
Registration forms are available at the Central Community Center, 1000 W. Central Road; Lions Recreation Center, 411 S. Maple St.; and RecPlex, 420 W. Dempster St.
