Yet another flooding threat emerges as more storms threaten

Add the Des Plaines River to the list of waterways in danger of flooding.

The threat of potentially heavy afternoon and evening rain storms is raising fears that flooding will escalate in Lake County.

In Gurnee, along the Des Plaines River, park district officials said today they closed Gowe Beach and canceled Friday's Farmer's Market at Esper Peterson Park.

"Rising waters near both areas and forecasts reporting several inches of rainfall overnight made it necessary to cancel the market and close the beach for precautionary reasons," said Susie Kuruvilla, the district's executive director.
