Briefs: Cozy classrooms
Wondering about crowding in your child's classroom? Community Unit District 300 officials invite you to the school board meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Carpentersville Middle School auditorium, 100 Cleveland Ave. The Eastside Study Committee will present three long-term proposals to ease crowding at Golfview and Perry elementary schools in Carpentersville. Those proposals will be posted online Tuesday, the same day the district will mail notification letters to affected families. Depending on which scenario the board ultimately chooses, the district said it "may include changes to programming, facilities, grade configurations or boundaries at Golfview, Perry and other D300 schools" in the 2009-2010 school year.
Fishing derby on tap
The Elgin parks and recreation department will hold Fish for Fun, an annual fishing derby, from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Walton Island. The event, co-sponsored with the Izaak Walton League, features a fishing derby for kids 15 years and younger. Certificates will be given to anyone who catches a fish and awards will be given for the largest catch. All participants will receive a goodie bag. Eatery helps fight cancer
Diamond Jim's Gas Grill, 325 Meier St., East Dundee will sponsor a breast cancer fundraising event through Sunday. A yard sale will be held in the beer garden from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The event includes a silent auction, raffles, T-shirt sale and complimentary food. Art is sweet at Judson
Judson University from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today will hold an art show benefiting university art camps. It's at the Harm Weber Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. It's free and open to the public, the event features works of art and handmade chocolates for sale.
Buffalo Park repairs
Algonquin's Buffalo Park Forest Preserve will be closed Monday while officials repave its entrances and main parking lot. The forest preserve is expected to reopen Tuesday. For details, call the forest preserve district at (630) 232œ5980.
