Briefs: Administration honored

Lake in the Hills Village Administrator Gerald Sagona recently received an award for distinguished budget presentation from the Chicago-based Government Finance Officers Association. In order to receive the honor, the budget must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

Clean out your garage

South Elgin's annual Community Garage Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 20 at Concord Park, Concord and Valley Forge streets. The village's parks and recreation department will provide individuals with a 10-foot-by-10-foot space with room for an 8-foot-long table. The cost is $7 for residents and $10 for nonresidents. Free open gyms all summer

The Elgin Police Department school liaison program will sponsor a free open gym program for young people ages 8 to 16 from June 9 through Aug. 8. At U-46 schools from 5:30 to 9 p.m. kids can play basketball, kickball, soccer, floor hockey, swimming or do arts and crafts. Speakers will give presentations on baking, bicycle safety, gang awareness and prevention, life skills and drug and alcohol awareness. A waiver and participation form is required.
