Mount Prospect fire sends mom, teen to hospital

Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire in Mount Prospect early Monday.

A smoky fire chased a woman and her teenage daughter out of their rental home around 1:10 a.m. Monday at 201 S. Lancaster St., police said.

According to reports, smoke filled the house and woke Linda T. Kamins, 44, and her daughter, 14, who were sleeping on a living room couch; they ran from the house and phoned 911 from a neighbor's home on the 100 block of South We-Go.

Mount Prospect firefighters entered the home through the roof and put out the flames.

Kamins and her daughter were evaluated for smoke inhalation at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, reports said.

A damage estimate was not available. It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, but the electricity had gone out earlier in the evening and Kamins had lit candles throughout the house, reports said.

The home belongs to Kamins' sister and brother-in-law, Thomas J. Huene and Christine L. Huene of Arlington Heights.
