A father suffers saddest news of all

I was reading an article about a murder sentencing in the June 5 Daily Herald when I realized I knew the father of the victim.

Forty years ago, a large group of us then young adults were friends.

Bobby Heskin and I were part of that group. That was when life was carefree and fun.

Until about 20 years ago, I would see Bobby from time to time when, as a Chicago police officer, he would bring someone in to the intake area of the state psychiatric hospital where I was a R.N.

If time allowed, we would catch up on news about the "old gang" and talk about old times.

Over the years, divorces occurred, as did deaths. There was good news and sad. The story I read on June 5th was the saddest yet -- Bobby's child was brutally murdered and to add insult to an already horrendous injury, ignorant people had made deeply painful remarks regarding the circumstances.

My deepest condolences to the Heskin family. May they find some consolation in knowing that their child is now at peace and will never again be hurt.
